Today we did a little group installation whereby we explored denotative and connotative meanings behind our objects that we put together in class
We curated a short poem as a group, bringing life to the mask that had been created
The Mask

A strongly well structured neutral darkness that is expressionless with no emotion
Yet full of peace
The character is non-existent without the audience
The eyes
Nose
Bone cheeks
are smooth…creating intension
and mystique

We did a mask-evaluation exercise whereby each group member brought their mask and we had to free-right about the mask at hand. However, out of the 6 group members, only 1 of them brought their mask (😂💀🙆🏾♂️ thanks Soso) and we wrote on it. Hers was a neutral mask.
This is what I (Thando) personally had to comment about it:
The mask is black, expressionless. It is of no emotion or assumption or behaviour. It is of non existent in the past nor the future. It is only existent in the present. The mask allows the actor to portray an action without being read by the audience. The audience only understands what the actor is doing, not necessarily how they are feeling. This mask creates mystique and leaves the audience guessing about its intentions before it is put to use by the performer. The mask is fairly strong and well-structured
Alright cool, so after some hassles to find a working computer at the Resource Centre we finally found one and managed to set up this group blog. Hopefully you guys will enjoy the cool content and experiences we encounter this semester as a squaaaaa 🙂
